"VAPOR COOLING METHOD, VAPOR COOLING APPARATUS, AND FLOW PASSAGE STRUCTURE, AND APPLICATION THEREOF"
This invention provides a vapor cooling method in which, in a process of a boiling phenomenon, larger-area cooling in vapor cooling by nuclear boiling in a temperature region where transition boiling can take place, can be realized.

Track 3: 9:55 - 10:25am                                                                            the Fuller Room A
    Red-Ion Medical

"Therapeutic Devices for Chronic Hepatitis C"

Red-Ion’s investigational device for chronic hepatitis C (CHC) produces a micro electric current.  It is applied to patient’s hands sandwiched between electrodes covered with insulation materials.  Patients being treated will normally feel nothing during the self-treatment.  In a US preliminary study of 41 CHC patients, ALT and AST decreased and CD4+ and CD8+ T cells increased after 4-week treatment.  Red-Ion Medical has started a double blind comparative clinical study of the device in 150 CHC patients in 5 US leading university hospitals.  Red-Ion Medical targets to obtain FDA regulatory clearance in 4Q 2009.

Track 4: 9:55 - 10:25am                                                                           the Fuller Room B
    OGAWA & Co. Ltd.

"Inhibitory Effects of Black Tea Theaflavins on Off-Odor Formation from Citral"
The stability of lemon flavor in citrus drinks is an important issue in the flavor and beverage industries. Citral (a key component of lemon flavor) easily degrades under acidic aqueous conditions and generates off-odors. The mechanism of the off-odor formation of citral was clarified and theaflavins (major phenolic constituents of black tea) were found to be effective in reducing these off-odors.  This technology can be utilized in a wide variety of citrus products.

"Masking Off-flavors using the NAF® Flavor Series"
NAF® Flavor Series are state-of-the-art natural flavors which mask many kinds of off-flavors in processed food products induced by heat, light and oxygen.

“Mixed Plants Extract OG-1” for High Skin Moisturizing Effects"
Mixed Plants Extract OG-1 is an extract originating from Kampo prescription that provides high moisturizing effects. This extract was developed through an entirely new idea using Kampo for external use.

Track 5: 10:40 - 11:10am                                                                           the Fuller Room A
    BIO MATRIX Research, INC.

"CELIXSYSTM: a Comprehensive Epitope Library Acquisition System for Monoclonal Antibody Production "
CELIXSYSTM is a novel immuno-precipitation equivalent antigen liquid-phase based screening method for monoclonal antibody production, covering theoretically all the epitopes on an antigen molecule whose conformation being kept intact and free from steric hindrance as is often the case with conventional antigen solid-phase based screening methods, such as antigen coated ELISA, dot blot or western blot methods. By using CELIXSYSTM method, the success rate in generating high quality and high performance monoclonal antibodies, applicable to not only basic research and clinical diagnostic reagents such as sandwich ELISA, antibody array, immunochoromatography but also exploration of antibody drugs, become much greater.

Track 7,8: 11:15 - 12:10am                                                                        the Fuller Room A
    Nagoya University

"Hand Incubator Medical Device"
By Hitoshi HIRATA MD&PhD
Hand Incubator is developed to reduce soft tissue swelling while allowing free active exercise. Hydrostatic pressure as low as 40mmHg or lower applied by a small air pump combined with free active exercise drastically reduces the risk of hematoma formation, soft tissue swelling and joint contracture while enhancing venous and lymphatic drainage. It can be used in combination with an air conditioning unit to optimize the temperature and the humidity around the extremity. The transparency of the chamber enhances wound observation. HandIncubator can also deliver topically applicable drugs to the injured or diseased hand.

"PinFix: External Fixator"
By Hitoshi HIRATA MD&PhD
PinFix is an instantaneously applicable external bone fixation device comprising of plurality of ball joints. A rotary member consists of a tubular fastening member that contains the ball and a coupling member. The ball joint is fixed securely at any desired angle by screwing the coupling member into the fastening member, thereby, a strikingly high degree of freedom is realized in the direction of insertion of pins. Multiple pins inserted in a fragment specific fashion or transfocal fashion are connected each other with PinFix resulting in rigid 3 dimensional fracture fixation. In fact, a biomechanical study showed that PinFix offers rigid fixation comparable to the locking plate fixation when applied to unstable distal radial fractures.

"GABAB agonists as new therapeutic agents for obesity" By Hiroshi ARIMA MD&PhD
Peripheral administration of baclofen significantly reduced food intake and body weight increase in both diabetic (db/db) and diet-induced obese mice for 5 weeks, whereas it had no significant effects on energy balance in their lean control mice. Despite the decreased body weight, neuropeptide Y expression in the arcuate nucleus was significantly decreased, whereas proopiomelanocortin expression was significantly increased by baclofen treatment. These data demonstrate that the inhibitory effects of baclofen on body weight in the obese mice were mediated via the arcuate nucleus at least partially, and suggest that GABAB agonists could be a new therapeutic reagent for obesity.

"On-chip fabrication of a nano device for non-viral gene delivery"
   By Yoshinobu Baba MD
Microfluidic device is highly beneficial to the rapid fabrication of various non-viral vectors with different functionalities, which is indispensable for effective order-made gene therapy. We developed a noble microfluidic chip-based approach for fabricating non-viral vectors in short time. The on-chip fabrication of MEND was completed in very short time: it typically took 20 minutes, which was much shorter than 30 hours consumed by the conventional method. This approach permitted to MEND which is composed of a compacted DNA core and a lipid bilayer membraine shell and considered as a promising non-viral vector for gene therapy application.

"Fluorescence Protease Substrate Libraries for Diagnosis"

On PEGA resin are built peptides with various amino acid sequences as so-called peptide library by the automatic peptide synthesizer. Finally FITC, the fluorescence label is attached to the end. The material, FITC-peptide-spacer-PEGA resin is non-fluorescent, but once any proteases hydrolyze any bonds between FITC and PEGA resin, fluorescent fragment is released to the solution to be detected sensitively. The library will be employed to discover a necessary set with several peptide sequences for diagnosis of special disease. The set could be kept secret or patented for clinical application. Collaboration in application for special disease is welcome.

"EAAS-mini: Enzyme Activity Analyzing System, Small Size Fluorescence Detector and Data Processor "
Increase in fluorescence intensity in a few micro liters solution can be measured in 1 mm diameter glass tube. Multi-four samples could be measured at once to detect proteases in serum or urine with four or eight different FITC-Peptides-spacer-PEGA resin substrates. The data will be processed to give profiles for diagnosis.

"Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors "
Candidate as medicines for diseases which related histone deacetylases. Extremely potent (several nM concentration in vitro) among known non-peptide inhibitors. We have more than 100 collection of various cyclic peptide inhibitors of these enzymes. Collaboration is welcome for special application. More than 10 grams can be supplied.
