Tunable thermal expansion coefficient of sinterd ceramics

ZrW2O8 exhibits isotropic negative thermal expansion in a wide temperature range, from -272.7 to 777 ºC (from -458.86 to 1430.6 ºF), and it is expected to use in many applications that have thermal expansion mismatch problems. However ZrW2O8 ceramics cannot be obtained easily because thermodynamically stable temperature range of ZrW2O8 is only between 1105 and 1257 ºC (2021 and 2294.6 ºF). Our group has been studied to prepare ZrW2O8 ceramics at low temperature range below 777 ºC (1430.6 ºF). And now, we succeed to prepare the dense ZrW2O8 ceramics at 600 ºC (1112 ºF) and to control the thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramics from negative to positive by doping with other metal elements or compositing other materials (i.e. metal oxides or metals).
